Yesterday the LA City Council voted unanimously to halt the red light camera program who ticketed over 180,000 motorists since 2004. Why would they vote to halt a program that sounds like such a cash cow? Well it turns out the way…
…that the law was written the tickets were voluntary. Since they are not moving violations there is nothing they can do to force motorists to pay them. Since they are just mailed out and there is no real consequence to not paying them they were having a hard time collecting the money.
I wonder if this spells doom for other red light camera programs, like the one in Orlando?
