Tron Legacy Official Trailer Released

If you watched the Oscars live then you probably saw the first official trailer for the upcoming Tron Legacy movie starring Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges. I have already said that I am super excited to see this movie. In the trailer they showed during the Oscars we see that Flynn has a son and his dad has been missing for years. The trailer is pretty cool showing us a glimpse inside Tron world but what you didn’t see is the second trailer.

The second trailer features an amazing light cycle battle that is going to rock in 3D. The videos are after the jump.

It was kind of funny as I am freaking out about the trailer during the Oscars my wife is asking me what the hell a “tron” is. She is only 2 years younger than me but never saw or even heard of the first film. I am trying to decide if its worth showing it to her or not.

The last time I tried to show her a favorite old movie of mine things di not go so well. 5 minutes into “The Last Dragon” she looked at me and said “this is supposed to be good?”.

What do you think? I know that they are going to make it so you didn’t need to see the first movie to get the second one, but show I try and show her the OG tron?

For those of you who don’t know the story from the first movie here it is in a nut shell. Kevin Flynn is a gifted programer that spends his off time developing games on the companies mainframe with the idea to create his own video game company. Unfortunately another worker Ed Dillinger locks Flynn out of the sytem and presents his work as his own. Dillinger earns a series of promotions and fires Flynn who goes and opens an arcade featuring his games.

Flynn constantly tries to break into the mainframe to prove Dillinger stole his work. His program CLU is caught by the Master Control Program and is erased and Flynn is locked out. Alan Bradley is also an employee at the company and is locked out by MCP. He goes to Dillinger and says he is working on a program named TRON that will monitor the MCP and its communications with the outside world. The MCP does not like the idea of being monitored and reveals to Dillinger wants to hack the government and take over since it could run things better than humans. When Dillinger protests the MCP blackmails him into complying.

Flynn Alan and his girlfriend try to physically break into the building to get access and are sucked into the computer by the MCP. Inside they become “users” which resemble there human counterparts. They are then forced to play games that result in there elimination, games like the light cycle battles and disc game. They try and escape and try to destroy the MCP.

The effects in the first movie were groundbreaking for 1982 and it was the first time that computer graphics had been used heavily in a movie.

Spoiler: For those who didn’t see the first move and don’t want to know the ending don’t highlight the text below.

Flynn eventually destroys MCP and escapes and he becomes CEO of the company.

Here are some of my thoughts on the trailers. First off they are great and really make you want to see the movie. The music in the first one and the weird random images make are fantastic.

What the hell is this guy?

It looks like that there is a huge world now inside the computer that Flynn is trapped in. It’s like a big city with hot chicks, doesn’t sound too bad to be trapped in.

I also noticed that they not only have light cycles, but they seem to have a “light car”.

Also apparently the CLU program still lives as show by a young CGI Jeff Bridges.

All in all this is the perfect movie for the new 3D technology. I recently saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D and the movie was meh, but the new 3D technology is amazing. This is now the movie I am most excited about seeing, only slightly above Iron Man 2.
