So Superbowl 2010 is in the books and there is a huge party happening in the French Quarter thanks to the Saints pulling off what some thought to be a huge upset of the Colts. Since my Cowboy’s (I know they suck right now) were not in it this was a hard one for me to pick sides on. On one hand there were the Colts and Manning, I really like him and think his commercials are hilarious. On the other hand there were the scrappy Saints, the underdog playing for a city ravaged by disaster. My heart went out to the Saints so I am happy they got the win, if for nothing other than the Mayhem it must have caused in the French quarter.
Hit the jump for the commercials.
Ok enough about the game and on to the real reason anyone who’s team isn’t in the game watches the Superbowl, the commercials. There were a few good ones but nothing super amazing if you ask me. I think Dorritos had the best set of ads as a company. The kid with the “don’t touch my momma and don’t touch my Dorritos” was classic.
Now on to the car commercials. There were only a few in there and even less that I wold call memorable. One of which was the Audi “Green Police” Add. Set in a future where the “Green Police” run wild with authority arresting people for things like possession of an incandescent light bulb. I thought it was humorous in a thoughtful way.
The next one I thought was pretty good was the Hyundai Bret Farve ad. We flash forward ten years and Bret Farve is the 2020 Superbowl MVP giving an acceptance speech. I like the “when your older than most of the fans, coaching staff owners its hard taking orders from people” line. Then at the end there is something about Hyundai, not sure I don’t really remember that part.
The best is the Add for the Dodge Charger “Mans Last Stand”. This was the best car add if you ask me. It is totally my sense of humor, sarcastic. Some gem lines from the ad are “I will carry your lip balm, I will watch your vampire TV shows, I will be civil to you mother and I will put the seat down. It’s basically a monologue or an even toned man saying all these things he will do for a woman. I just wish they would have done it for the Challenger not the Charger. The charger is so 5 years ago. It does not even come close to the looks and retro feel of the Challenger.
Well did I miss any that you thought deserve to be here?
UPDATE:
Well it looks like I did not see the whole game and missed a few pretty good commercials. One of which was pointed out by Andy. It is this Kia commercial of the stuffed animals going off.
Another was this one from VW. Its ok until the end where a big cameo and Tracy Morgan really make the ad.
There were a few more, some of them lame. Like this one from Bridgestone.
Yet another lame ad from Bridgestone.
All and all I still stick with my original pick of the “Man’s Last Stand”.
