Starting to warm up to Top Gear USA

I got around to watching the second episode of Top Gear USA’s season 2 last night on my DVR, and I have to say I am becoming more of a fan. I watched the season two premier a few days ago and I was not that impressed. I was leaning more to not watching it and just watching Adam Carolla’s Car Show on speed until the real Top Gear airs on BBC America on August 22nd.

The first episode of season 2 TG USA was about replacing trucks with small cars. The hosts seemed to be getting a long but it still seemed a little forced. There were no real interesting cars in it. I think one of the things that UK does it to make sure to mix a really nice car review into each show, this one was just a challenge episode and seemed boring.

Episode 2 however was about first cars and first dream cars. The hosts really seemed to hit their stride here. The emotions were real and the guys came off funny also. Tanners first car was a CRX, Adam had a K Car and Rutledge had a VW pickup.

For the dream cars they only let Tanner and Adam play. Adam went for American Muscle and a Corvette ZR1. This car is just raw power and I like it.

Tanner picked a the Ferrari 458 with all of its technology. The 458 is just pure sex on wheels.

The cinematography in Top Gear USA is just as good as the UK version and the banter and commentary seemed much stronger than before. I think the guys are starting to get to know each other a lot better and it shows.

They handled the Stig a little better in this episode by giving him a little more mystery than before and then airdropped him in. I still miss the quips about the stig from the UK version.
