Sensing that Top Gear on History is not hitting on all cylinders Speed TV has green lit a pilot for an automotive show starring Adam Carolla, Matt Farah of Garage 419 and The Smoking Tire fame, and Pulitzer winner Dan Neil. You may remember that Carolla was part of the original Top Gear pilot for NBC that never saw the light of day.
I have to say that this group instills much more confidence that the hosts on Top Gear USA do. Adam Carolla is a very funny guy and is about the only guy I think could even hold a candle to Clarkson in the snarkiness department. In addition to the humor Adam is a real car car, unlike Adam Ferrara who doesn’t strike me to know anything about cars unless the producers tell him about it.
If you have ever seen an episode of Garage 419 you know that Matt Farah should be able to hold his own quite well. He knows cars, is accustomed to reviewing them and is well connected in the auto scene. Dan Neil is a very well respected journalist and should add an air of intelligence to fold.
They are calling it a cross between Top Gear and The Best Damn Sports Show Period mixing humor and automotive news and reviews. This seems like it will be the “car guys” car show. When I watch Top Gear on History I just cant seem to like and relate to anyone other than Tanner. They seem clueless when it comes to the actual car stuff and I put no weight into anything they say in a review.
Check out Matt reviewing and Audi R8 to get a feel for his skills. Oh and he is also a part of the upcoming web series Turn 9, which Microsoft like so much it “borrowed” some of its footage for their Forza 4 trailer.
