My boy Vinny has stated that he hates hybrids but I wonder what he thinks about this one. Meet the Porsche 918 Spyder a hybrid like no other. Most hybrids are gas sipping little pansy green machines, more worried about saving the planet than putting a smile on your face. The are more pictures and video after the jump.
This Hybrid is more worried about plastering a permanent grin on anyone mug who gets to drive one. With a 3.4L V8 in conjunction with electric motors making 500bhp. You see there are advantages of electric motors, they have instant torque and provide blinding acceleration. The Porsche 918 Sypder is capable of 0-62 in only 3.2 seconds and tops our at 198MPH. The funny thing is this is all achieved while getting 78MPG.

Topping out at 198mph and offering a very respectable 78mpg fuel economy, this is pretty much the stuff dreams are made, which is quite naturally why you shouldn’t expect to see it in any purchasable form any time soon. If you do care to see more of it, however, you can do so at the Geneva Motor Show this year or just past the break, the choice is yours.

Yeah but think about if you had any other high end Porsche where the brake job costs $20k or a GTR with a $2000 “routine service” you are getting screwed on upkeep anyway.

Well I guess I can’t say that I “hate” this hybrid. I’m sure I wouldn’t be happy if I owned it and it was time to change out all of the batteries or if the second motor burned out, but I guess if I had the kind of money to purchase this toy, why would it matter, then again, why would I need to save on mpg’s in the first place?
Maybe down the road I’ll have some sort of family oriented daily driver that will run on petrol and the help of the energizer bunny, but in the mean time, I’ll be sticking to my Premium Unleaded “ONLY”… lol
