The web is on fire with reports of the Lexus LFA Nürburgring Package has obliterated the standing production car record at the ring. The car supposedly ran a… 7:14. If Chris Harris of EVO magazine and Lexus themselves via twitter are right this is crazy.
The previous record was held by the Porsche 911 GT2RS, with a 7:18. Think about this a 7:14 makes the LFA Nürburgring Package one of the 5 fastest cars ever on the ring. Now the car they did it in is not your run of the mill LFA, that just sounds funny. It is a special edition that has 10 more HP, a improved tranny to reduce shifts to .15 seconds from the absurdly slow .20 seconds it used to be and some minor visual tweaks. There will only be 50 of this “production car” made so get in line now if you have the close to $500,000 needed to get it.
The 7:14 was accomplished by Lexus test driver Akira Iida, lets hope they taped it.
