I have to say I am a sucker for some classic car movies, especially if they have a black Trans Am and a one Burt Reynolds and if you are like me then Netflix has made you very happy by putting Smokey and the Bandit up for instant streaming.
The comedy between Burt and Jackie still holds up today (the god damn Germans got nothing to do with it!) and the car scenes are still nicely done. The black Trans Am from the film is iconic and was the dream car of many a kid my age. To this day I still want a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Special edition.
The plot of the movie is fairly simple. The Bandit has a bet with a rich guy and his son that they can’t get 400 cases of Coors from Texas to Atlanta in under 28 hours. The main problem with this is that at the time transporting beer over the boarder of Texas was considered bootlegging. If the Bandit wins he gets 80k. To accomplish this Bandit takes his black Trans Am and runs blocker for Snowman in a big rig behind him.
This film will probably remain a one of those classics that can not be remade. I just don’t think that with modern law enforcement technology anyone could actually pull off being a blocker and outrunning so many cops. So if yo happen to be younger than me and never saw the movie give it a shot on Netfilx and let me know what you think.
