Hyudai has been doing some great things with 4 wheels lately and is well on their way to turning around their image. For years most people like me would have never been caught dead in a Hyundai, never mind actually want one. Things started changing when the the Genesis coupe and sedans came out. Then the all new Sonata hit and had people like me saying things like,… that looks nice.
When you add the Equus to the line up you have a lineup of really nice looking cars that actually perform. In addition to looks and performance the cars are even reasonably priced.
The latest car in the pipeline is the Veloster, and its a hatch. Most of us import guys like hatches and I am one of them. The Veloster has some interesting lines and a really weird feature. Do you remember the show trend where people one rock one set of wheels on one side and a totally different set on the other?
Apparently Hyundai liked the concept but took it one step further. On the drivers the Veloster looks like a coupe, on the passenger side it has an extra door and pulls off the sedan look.
The Veloster looks the part, but I think they are going to need to up the performance on this one. Right now the only engine option they are showing is a 1.6L GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) which puts out 138HP and 123 lb.-ft of torque. I wish they would offer it with the same motor in the Sonata Turbo, or at least offer a turbo variant to make the tuner crowd happy.
All and all I like the car even though its a little funky looking, I am just hoping the come up with some more power.
