Your trying to live your life in your island paradise and all you hear at night is screeching tires and revving motors. This is what the residents of Tantalus and Round Top in Hawaii go through on an almost nightly basis. The winding roads in the area turn out to be great for drifting and have become a sort of meca for the local drifters. The Hawaii government has a plan to stop it.
They are going to apply a product called Tyre Grip to the corners. This material basically turns the road surface into a rough sandpaper. It increases grip and works well in the rain also. In addition to making the curves safer for normal drivers it makes drifting impossible. The cost will be $100,000 to treat the 8 popular corners.
I know most of you will probably think I am going to rip on this idea, but I am all for it. Drifting on public roads is dangerous and should not be done. I would also be very pissed if I was trying to sleep and had to listen to the soundtrack of tokyo drift all night.
In addition to this I think they should look into setting up a legal place for the locals to drift at. The more legal opportunity that enthusiasts have the less they will feel the need to do it illegally in public.

Kawika (808trauma)Luckily, on the Big Island of Hawaii we have a lot of abandon roads with no homes anywhere near them for that type of driving…. Only issue here is the Cops drive Mustang Cobra’s and Pontiac GTO’s.
