The Apple Ipad has been out for 6 days and it has already been flush mounted in the dash of a Toyota Tocaoma thanks to SoundMan Car Audio located in Santa Clarita, California . It is a pretty slick setup and the ipad is the sole source unit for the vehicle. They did a slick video that is after the jump that shows the install process.
It’s a pretty cool idea since the Ipad does have everything you would want in an entertainment system for a car, they only problem I see is that the only Ipads out right now are wifi only. So once you leave the range of a wifi network nothing will really work other than the ipod.

Even when the 3G version comes out later this month you will still have to pay $30 a month for the data plan. I think that’s a lot of money when other nav systems don’t charge any monthly fees.
Since as I am looking for a way to upgrade my current av system in Project VIP it looks like the Ipad will not be the solution.
