Crackdown on street racing in Orlando

Last night WFTV ran a story about the Orange County Deputies cracking down on the street racing problem in Orlando. They did not reveal their tactics but did identify some hot spots for the racing like including Presidents Drive, Wetherbee Road, and roads along Orlando International Airport. It is hard for me to believe people still are going to presidents after all these years.

You would think that if you are into street racing you would at least know the laws and the risks. They handed out tickets to spectators in the amount of $229 and they said they did not know you could be fined for watching or riding along.

The new law that we were talking about earlier jacks the fines for getting caught actually racing to $5,000 and lets them suspend the license of those caught racing. It is expected to be signed into law soon so think about whether that next race is worth 5 grand and losing you license before you hit the gas.

If the thought of killing yourself or an innocent bystander isn’t enough to give you pause think about what you could do with that 5 grand, VOLKS, Turbo or widebody. If you want to show off how fast your car is may I suggest Orlando Speed World or the Central Florida Road Course.
