While planning a family trip to San Fransisco for Chinese New Year, I did some research for places to eat. I looked at countless sites and finally a friend told me to try Delfina Pizzeria. At first I was a little sceptical, but we gave it a chance after my wife looked up the reviews on Yelp, the results were mostly positive except for the wait time. I live in So-cal so we learned that anywhere that has good food, there’s always a line. So in turn, we are use to the wait, and this time it was well worth it.
For starters, we ordered the Spicy Cauliflower & Fried w/ Eyes (it tasted better then it sounds). For entrees, we ordered 2 pizzas, a Margherita w/Prosciutto & a Purgatorio along with a bottle of wine (Rosso). The food turned out AWESOME! Spicy Cauliflower was going so fast that I didn’t have a chance to take picture of the full plate, I only managed to take a shoot of the leftover pieces that was left for me. It was lightly sauteed with olive oil and well seasoned with garlic, capers and spices. Fried w/ Eyes are deep fried smelt, the outer are very crispy and inside is warm fish, it also come with a tarter like source to dip. The Margherita was good, but I think it would of been better if we didn’t add the Prosciutto, but the Purgatorio hit the spot. I have been searching for the perfect pizza for sooo… long. Then came along the “Purgatorio”, the crust was made perfectly, charred, thin, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. The egg yolk on top was so right that you can use the crust to dip in the egg yolk; just that made me happy. My wife is not a pizza lover, but she ended up raving about how awesome the taste was, it was perfectly constructed.
All in all, this is a must when you visit San Francisco, I’m definitely going back for sure when we head up to San Francisco agian.
