Yesterday we learned that the 2011 WRX sedan and hatch would be getting the wider stance from the STI and that Subaru was updating the STI. TO me this made the WRX so close to the STI that it would even make me think twice about buying an STI over a WRX. Today thanks to autoblog we get to see if they STI is any different from the WRX.
For those who hated the hatchback only STI you can now rejoice in the return of the STI sedan.
For me I think the sedan is OK, but the EVO X is a 1000% better looking car. They could have gone so much more aggressive with the overall look of the car.
Other than the big wing I would say that most people would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the WRX and the STI. The performance on the WRX vs the STI is close and the cars look almost exactly the same so the only reason to get the STI is the diff which you would only really take advantage of in off road. So did Subaru just make the STI obsolete with the WRX?
When comparing the new 2011 STI hatchback to the older body style I don’t see a major difference, its more of a facelift to me but I do like the little mugen looking wing on the back.
On both the Hatch and the Sedan the main updates on are really a beefed up suspension with stiffer everything and thicker roll bars. Other than that they trimmed some weight and left the HP at 305. The sedan is lighter than the hatch but it will probably be slower due to weight distribution.
For me the only one worth considering is still the hatchabck because if wanted a fast turbo sedan I would be getting a EVO X.
