2003 Infiniti M45 Suspension Guide: Part 1: Springs

2003 Infiniti M45 Springs Guide

So many people get a new ride and the first thing they do is go out and get rims, forgetting the drop. The drop on a car is so important. You could have an the best kit and super wide 3 piece rims but if you are 4x4ing it, it doesn’t matter.

There are really 3 ways to drop a car like the M45. You have springs, coilovers and air. This is one of those situations where you are pretty much stuck going to Japan for parts on the 2003 M45. I’ll break it down for everyone here.

Part One: Springs | Part 2 Coilovers

Eibach: The myth the legends.

When I first got my M45 I went searching for springs for the ride. Some quick web searches are forum looks turned up that the “only option” for the car. The only problem was that they were discontinued and finding them were impossible. One set had supposedly gone for upwards of $500 on ebay.

One of the issues with the Eibachs was that they gave the car an uneven drop with the rear much lower than the fronts. This lead some people to cut a coil on the fronts to even the drop out. Now some people freak out about this but it is totally acceptable if the spring has what are called “dead coils” at the bottom. These don’t really affect the ride quality and are there really just for height. Just make sure you cut a whole coil so that the spring sits in the strut the same way it would before you cut it.

Espelir GT Springs: The JDM goods.

After a big nogo on finding a spring that was actually in the US I called my JDM connection and he hooked me up with a set of Espelir GT Springs from Japan. After a 6 week wait they finally arrived and I threw them on the car. They surely did the job of removing a big portion of the wheel gap on the M45. The only problem is that they left a bigger gap in the front than in the rear. Due to how the spring is built if I cut a whole coil it would drop the front another inch causing much rubbing with my current wheel and tire set up so I am stuck with them the way they are. They ride really well and still maintain the luxury/sport feel of the M45.

These are the lowest springs available as far as I know.

TEIN S-Tech: More JDM goods.

This is basically the other readily “available” springs for the 2003 M45. TEIN is a great company and makes solid products. One thing to watch out for on TEIN’s is they are one of the most counterfeited springs out there.

I left a few of the ones that I could not really verify or know of anyone who actually used them. If you have a different set of springs on your 2003 Infiniti M45 let me know in the comments.

Recap: Springs for the 2003 Infiniti M45

Pros: Low Cost and bolt on install.
Cons: Not adjustable and some drop the car uneven and most are not “low enough”.

Check back for Part 2: Coilovers in the next few days.
